How we run this kind of project

Which data feeds which decision?
We define which decision the data will support, not what goes on the screen. Without this, a SCADA becomes a good-looking screen nobody looks at.

Signal list and tagging
The signals to be collected from the PLC are listed and a consistent tag standard is set. Tag discipline is what makes the system extensible later.

Alarm hierarchy
Every alarm is tied to an action; a warning with no action is removed from the alarm list. Priority levels are defined so alarm noise drops.

Operator screens
Screens are designed around the shift workflow: overview, line detail, alarm list and trends. Colour and symbol use is kept consistent.

Reporting and commissioning
Shift reports, downtime cause breakdowns and trend logging are enabled. The project closes with user training and a backup procedure.

Frequently asked about SCADA and Visualisation
Will it work with my existing PLC?
In most cases yes. After reviewing the fieldbus protocol (Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, EtherNet/IP and so on) and the existing program structure, a data collection architecture can usually be built without replacing the PLC. If the program is locked or undocumented, we start with an inventory.
Is remote access secure?
Remote access is set up over a separate network segment and a controlled VPN, with per-user permissions. Solutions that expose the production network directly to the internet are not recommended.
What if I add a new machine later?
The tag standard and screen templates are built with this in mind from the start. A new machine is added through the same template without redesigning the system.
