How to choose the right product in this group

Fill ratio
Trunking and conduit are sized for future additions, not just today's cables. Overfilling hinders both heat rejection and maintenance.

Environment and mechanical strength
Outdoors, in damp areas and where impact is likely, material and wall thickness change. In-panel slotted trunking and a field route are not the same product.

Power and signal separation
Running power cables in parallel with signal or communication cables in the same duct causes interference. Use separate ducts or a partitioned duct.

Fixing method and supports
Where the trunking or conduit is fixed, and at what spacing, must be decided up front. As support spacing grows the duct sags, covers spring open and cable weight eventually loads the fixings. Ceiling hangers, wall clips and floor ducts each need different supports.

- Bundling with tape instead of spiral wrap, making maintenance harder.
Terms you will meet in quotations and specifications

- Fill ratio
- The percentage of the duct cross-section filled by cables. A limit around 60% is used for heat dissipation and future additions.
- Slotted trunking
- Trunking used inside panels whose slotted sides let cables exit at any point.
- Bending radius
- The smallest radius a cable can bend without damage. It determines routing and panel depth.
- Power/signal separation
- Carrying power and communication cables in separate ducts or compartments to prevent interference.
Frequently asked about Cable Management
Do you deliver to site on pallets?
Yes. For bulky items such as trunking, conduit and spiral wrap we plan palletised site deliveries and can split shipments around your schedule.
How do I choose the trunking size?
Trunking is sized from the total cross-sectional area of the cables it will carry, aiming to stay below about 60% fill. Leaving room for future additions is far cheaper than opening a new route later.
Is panel trunking the same as field trunking?
No. Inside panels, slotted (finger) trunking is used so cables can exit at any point. On field routes, closed PVC trunking or conduit is preferred, chosen for mechanical strength and environmental conditions.
PVC conduit or spiral wrap?
Use PVC conduit on fixed routes and where impact is likely; use spiral wrap on moving on-machine connections and to bundle cables. Spiral wrap does not provide the mechanical protection a conduit does.
