Enclosures and Panels

The mechanical and thermal side of the panel: enclosure bodies, busbar systems, fans and thermostats.

Sheet-steel enclosures, busbars, climate control

Our approach

Enclosure selection means calculating IP rating, mounting depth and heat load together. Wepan and Tempa Pano bodies are available in standard sizes as well as custom builds. Inside, Hüner insulators and equalising busbars, IRTU earthing and comb busbars and Eurowest fans and thermostats complete the fit-out. We prepare the heat-load calculation on request.

Selection guide

How to choose the right product in this group

These are the same criteria we check when preparing a quotation. Send us your list and we run these checks on your behalf.

  1. 01

    Ingress protection (IP)

Dusty areas need IP54; washdown food plants need IP65 or above. A higher IP class makes heat rejection harder, so it must be assessed together with the climate control calculation.

  2. 02

    Heat load

The devices' power losses are summed, the enclosure's natural rejection is subtracted and a fan or cooler is chosen for the remainder. In drive-heavy panels this calculation cannot be skipped.

  3. 03

    Mounting depth and rail layout

Drives, moulded case breakers and terminal groups need different depths. Spare rail length should be left for feeders to be added later.

  4. 04

    Busbars and earthing

Busbar size follows current and short-circuit withstand, with insulator spacing per the manufacturer's table. The earth bar is planned to collect all body and door bonds.

Common mistakes on site

The mistakes we meet most often on site

  • Choosing enclosure size without a heat-load calculation, then having drives trip in summer.
  • Putting the fan at the top and the outlet at the bottom, fighting natural convection.
  • Leaving filter maintenance out of the plan, so a clogged filter makes the fan useless.
  • Forgetting the door earthing strap.
  • Filling the panel with no spare rail and needing a new enclosure at the first addition.
Technical terms

Terms you will meet in quotations and specifications

The concepts that come up most often in correspondence about this group, with short definitions.

Power loss (Pv)
The total power the devices in the panel dissipate as heat. It is the starting point of the climate calculation.
IP and IK class
IP covers dust and water, IK impact resistance. Outdoors and in traffic areas both are assessed together.
Mounting depth
The clear distance between mounting plate and door. It is the deciding dimension for drives and moulded case breakers.
Equalising and earth busbars
Busbar groups that collect the neutral and earth connections in the panel at a single point.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked about Enclosures and Panels

Can I order a custom-size enclosure?

Yes. With Wepan and Tempa Pano we offer custom builds alongside standard sizes. Dimensions, cable entry direction, mounting plate and door arrangement are set per project.

Will you do the heat-load calculation?

Yes, free of charge on request. The panel bill of materials and the ambient temperature are enough; we then include fan, thermostat and filter selection in the quotation.

Do you also assemble the panel?

Yes. Alongside supplying the body we also carry out device mounting, busbar and wiring work, labelling and testing. If you prefer, you can buy the body and accessories on their own.

How is busbar size decided?

Continuous current and prospective short-circuit withstand are assessed together, with insulator spacing set from the manufacturer's table. On main distribution boards we also check heating and mechanical stress.

Can devices be mounted on the panel door?

Yes for pushbuttons, pilot lights and operator panels, provided the door earth strap is fitted and cables crossing the hinge are rated for flexing. Heavy devices always go on the mounting plate.
